For many, thinking of summer, of freedom and adventure, conjures up going on a "road trip." With good reason, road trips can be all that and more. Speaking from experience I can tell you that the best road trip moments are often found far away from the Interstate and that the best way to find these is a good travel guide book. »more»

With everyone looking to economize, the annual summer vacation is one area almost certainly to be scaled back. Already summer camps, hotel resorts and other traditional summer destinations are reporting cancellations and slower bookings. Perhaps this is the year to bring back the summer road trip? »more»

Randy Pausch passed away yesterday of complications from pancreatic cancer. He was 47. Pausch was the terminally ill computer science professor whose poignant farewell lecture at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University became a viral video phenomenon and then a best-selling book (see link below). Book reviews should be about the book and not the person reviewing the book but with "Queen of the Road" this is proving to be a little tough. I relate to so much of the book that I can't help but share some of the many parallels to my own existence. »more»

At first blush a more accurate title for this book might have been "Commencement Speeches That I've Given Over the Past Thirty Years."
