before I die, middle age

Living Life on Life's Terms

hlesbrown's picture

On last night's internet radio program, I interviewed rock musician and author, Steve Mayfield, about his new album and book, Afterlife Crisis. One of the principle themes (that became a song on his album) was that, even when we've gotten through the midlife transition, we still can't find a "Resting Place" — somewhere or somehow to put down the stresses of life and catch our breaths. »more»

Living a Life of Regret

hlesbrown's picture

Emily Dickinson wrote, "Remorse is cureless, the disease not even God can heal." 'Remorse' arises as a sorrow for past decisions that you've made, while 'regret' serves as a broader, more useful term, describing a wish that you'd made other choices in the past: choices either to avoid doing something that you've done or to do something that you avoided. »more»

Interview with "Queen of the Road" Doreen Orion

Wesley's picture

Doreen Orion spent a year in a converted bus traveling the U.S. with her husband, pets and a journal to capture it all. The result is the ultimate road trip book along with the life changing discoveries that happen along the way. The book is terrific for anyone in middle age who via self-imposed restrictions feels incapable of escaping it all. »more»

Book Review: "Queen of the Road"

Wesley's picture

Book reviews should be about the book and not the person reviewing the book but with "Queen of the Road" this is proving to be a little tough. I relate to so much of the book that I can't help but share some of the many parallels to my own existence. »more»

Still on the "To Do Before I Die" List: Learning to Plan Golf

Wesley's picture

Some things are learned when you are young and if you don't do it then it is a whole lot more difficult. Learning Chinese as a second language would be one example and playing golf is another. Despite never really playing the game with any regularity, it is on my list of things to do before I die. I'm not ready for the time commitment yet, but the game of links is unlikely to ever come off the list until I do it. But there has been one little thing nagging me since I first put it on, when I do decide to start playing golf will I be able to master the game enough to enjoy it? I understand that it can be a frustratingly difficult for adults to learn. »more»

Jeanne Stawiecki's Peak-bagging, Marathoning Mission Reaches The Biggest Obstacle of All

Greg's picture

Jeanne Stawiecki, who we interviewed earlier this year, sets out next week on her third attempt to climb Mt. Everest. If successful, she'll become the first woman to summit the highest mountains and run marathons on all seven continents.

That would be a feat at any age. Jeanne is 56. »more»

Jeanne Stawiecki completes the Antarctica Marathon, next up Mt. Everest; not bad for someone who took up exercise in middle age

Wesley's picture

LifeTwo encourages its readers to challenge themselves by setting goals that require dedication and self-improvement. No one has set harder goals or improved themselves more than Jeanne Stawiecki who entered middle age a smoking, non-exerciser and then set the goal to run a marathon and climb the tallest mountain on every continent. She is now just one mountain (granted it's Mount Everest we are talking about) away from achieving her goal. Saving the Memories that can't be recreated; what to do with your shoe box of photos

A Happiness Tip from LifeTwo: Digitize Your Photos the Easy Way

If you are a typical middle age adult you have hundreds if not more photos in shoe boxes, drawers, and photo books. These are largely sitting idly because the accessibility to them is limited, particularly when compared to the more recent digital photos you may have taken and that are on your computer. »more»
