I'll cut right to the chase: I think my parents taught me that love is putting up with a lot of ill treatment and staying no matter what.
My own notion of love was that it would be like having a best friend and lover for the rest of my life, and we would have little problems but we'd adjust. »more»

I've lost count of the number of times I've heard someone affected by their MLC say "I'm so glad I now realise I'm not alone, I thought that I was going crazy", when what they should be saying is "I'm so glad that I now realise that I am not the only one going crazy". »more»

Recently, I was asked by a man who's wife had left him and his children due to her Mid-Life Crisis: When does the MLC begin and if redirected attention toward the children was an indication that a woman was soon going to click her heels and return home? Changing careers in middle age is very different than in the life periods before or after. Middle age is traditionally the peak earning period in most people's careers. It is the time when workers achieve their highest rank, their fattest salaries, and their most prestigious achievements. But it's also the time that we have perspective on what makes us happy and if our current career path doesn't entail sufficient satisfaction (or future promise), then for many of us it's time to make a change. »more»
