Five Books To Help You With Your Weight Loss Resolution

Wesley's picture

We all make resolutions though not always calling them that. Sometimes we just say to ourselves "I need to start doing X" or "I need to quit doing Y". One of the most common such self-promises involves weight and diet. But since since people and circumstances are so different, there is no single diet book that is going to work for every situation whether it's complications of diabetes, weak bone structure, or emotional overeating. With all of this in mind, we have summarized five new diet books to see which ones best fit what you are looking for.

Freedom from Disease: The Breakthrough Approach to Preventing Cancer, Heart Disease, Alzheimer's, and Depression by Controlling Insulin

Less to do with weight control and more to do with healthy living, authors Peter Morgan Kash and Jay Lombard, and Tom Monte pinpoint insulin as the culprit behind heart disease, depression, Alzheimer's, high blood pressure, and much more. In other words, insulin isn't just for diabetes anymore. The book outlines a combination of proper nutrition and exercise to lower insulin levels as well as inflammation. Immunity is also boosted. Sample menus and recipes are also included.

The Weight Loss Plan for Beating Diabetes: The 5-Step Program That Removes Metabolic Roadblocks, Sheds Pounds Safely, and Reverses Prediabetes and Diabetes

Diabetes is an epidemic with a reported 1.6 million new cases every year. Authors Frederic Vagnini and Lawrence Chilnick present a plan combining low-glycemic foods, reduced carbohydrates, and a modified "Mediterranean diet." Sample menus and meal options are included.

The Serotonin Power Diet: Eat Carbs--Nature's Own Appetite Suppressant--to Stop Emotional Overeating and Halt Antidepressant-Associated Weight Gain

Authors Judith Wurtman and Nina Frusztajer argue that the key to long-term weight loss is the brain chemical serotonin. It is the "switch" that tells your body "I've had enough to eat." Thus the goal of this book is to help you maximize your body's production of serotonin. Surprisingly you do this by eating carbohydrates to control appetite. Eating plan and recipes are included.

The Whole-Food Guide to Strong Bones: A Holistic Approach

Author Annemarie Colbin argues that bone health take center stage when thinking about diet. Strong bones are essential for maintaining an active lifestyle and certain foods actually weaken bones. The book goes well beyond diet by covering other important aspects of bone health including sunlight and weigh-bearing exercise. Recipes included.

Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day: 100 New Recipes Featuring Whole Grains, Fruits, Vegetables, and Gluten-Free Ingredients

Authors Jeff Hertzberg and Zoe Francois have created a cookbook for the health-conscious baker focusing on whole grains and other healthier ingredients. Their previous book argued that there is enough time in the day for home-baked bread. This version will help those who long for the taste of freshly-baked breads but whose diet told them to steer clear.

Note that many of these have Kindle versions and the new Kindle DX is perfect for cook books and recipes.
