Aging Backwards Tuesday Tips: Get Holiday-Party Fabulous

jackie's picture

It's been said that beauty comes from within, but it can't hurt to beautify the outside as well, especially when making a first impression. Whether it's your office holiday party or an invitation from someone special, we want to look and feel our best and it doesn't have to take all day. In fact, the expression, "Less is more," really comes into play here.

Here are some tips for getting holiday-ready in about an hour:

1) Get organized. If you've ever followed a recipe, you know that the smoothest way to ensure that your "concoction" turns out right is to assemble all the ingredients on your kitchen counter. I use the same concept when getting ready for a date or any other important occasion. Lining up my makeup on the bathroom countertop gives me an "assembly-line" so I can quickly move from one to another, rather than randomly digging through my makeup case.

2) Multi-task. I like products that serve more than one purpose and one of my new favorites is Olay Regenerist Touch of Foundation UV Defense Regenerating Moisturizer. It regenerates the skin's surface while also providing UV protection and a touch of color. I usually just brush on a light dusting of mineral powder over it and it looks great! Bruce Grayson, head of the Emmy's makeup department, told me in an interview that as we age, we should use less makeup, not more. Touch of Foundation fits right in with that philosophy.

3) See the details. One of my best tricks for applying flawless makeup is to use a magnifying mirror when applying my eye makeup and lip liner. The more exact the makeup application, the better it looks and you'll use less because you can actually see what you're doing. Warning: if you've never seen your skin in a 10x magnifying mirror, don't be shocked. Just remember that nobody can really see what you're seeing at the moment.

4) Shine up your hair. Shiny, healthy hair is always in style, so be sure to leave a few extra minutes for date-ready, shiny hair. My Aging Backwards secret for incredible shine is Moroccanoil. It comes from a bean in the Argan tree that only grows in Southwest Morocco. You'd think oil would make your hair oily, but there's some magical property about Moroccanoil that makes hair shiny, not oily. It also helps hair dry in half the time. I also like to use a flat iron or curling iron, which adds extra shine in minutes.

5) Don't just brush, floss too. Did you know that halitophobia is the fear of having bad breath? Studies show that people who floss have less overall breath odor than those who don't. So, if you want to feel confident when your date leans in close, floss and brush your teeth - even brush your tongue - before going out on your date.

So, remember, when it comes to holiday festivities, looking and feeling your best can give you extra confidence for that fun night out.
