Aging Backwards Tuesday Tips #67: Start the Day "Rite"

jackie's picture

Your whole day can go a lot smoother with a good start. I like to begin my day with The Five Tibetan Rites to help keep me Aging Backwards. I asked some other people all around the country what they do to start their day off right and here's what they had to say:

Heather Allard of Rhode Island, founder and president of 2 Virtues Inc, Safe Sleepwear for Infants and Toddlers, and creator of The Mogul Mom: "I start the day snuggled up with snugglebug Brendan while he nurses. Then, it's downstairs to greet my 2 darling daughters, darling husband and have a cup of coffee!" With two girls, Hope and Grace, baby boy Brendan, husband Scott and a dog named The Dude, you'd think she'd have her hands full, but Allard added, "Ours is a house full of love & laughter. Laughing is our favorite thing to do as a family."

Latoicha Givens of Atlanta, Georgia has plenty of great beauty and fashion advice on her Web site, Luxetips. Here's what she told me: "I start my day off right with a big cup of HOT mint tea. It instantly perks me up but also calms me down. I also say a prayer and meditate to remind me that it is not that serious and just go with the flow. Essential with 2 kids!"

Kat Tansey of Ojai, California, author of Choosing To Be - Lessons in Living from a Feline Zen Master: "I sneak up to the bedroom window first thing to watch the baby bunnies eating our grass. They are so cute!"

Mark Parbus of Cary, North Carolina, President/CEO of Unlocked Potential, Key Solutions for Maximum Performance has this advice: "Go to your favorite place for coffee and plan the day. Never start the day watching or reading anything that is negative."

Jaie Benson of Atlanta, Georgia calls herself "A Positive Energy Messenger" and she spreads the message on her blog, Passion on Purpose. She told me, "I always start with 30 minutes of meditation and yoga - when I don't my whole day is off."

Celebrity Makeup Artist and Eyebrow Specialist [Elke Von Freudenberg: "On a good day, yoga, white tea and a moment to relax. On a bad day? Coffee, too many emails and dashing out the door!"

Leigh Ann Hubbard in Colorado, editor of James Hubbard's My Family Doctor Magazine: "I always eat breakfast - not necessarily big or balanced but something healthy. Helps me wake up and not overeat at lunch."

Sarah Morgan, Pharma PR director in New Jersey says she starts her day "with 200 crunches, as soon as I roll out of bed to shut the alarm off (and before my brain wakes up enough to stop me!)"

Glenn Smith of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, whose Web site, Sensitive Self Help, helps overwhelmed, sensitive people find success, had this to say, "We walk our 12 year old Golden Retriever Brandy, rain, shine or dark of morning."

So, whatever you do to start your day off right, try making a habit of it through repetition. Experts say it takes 21 days to form a new habit. That's just three short weeks to make a choice that can serve you well for a lifetime.

Great tips

All I can say is: Two-hundred crunches? Whoa. Good for her. I wanna do that! Maybe I'll start with 20. :-)

Thank you for this interesting, inspirational article. And I'm excited to be included!
