Write a book, get a PhD, and other things it is not too late to do with your life

"Coulda, woulda, shoulda" is how many people in middle age feel about the lost opportunities of their lives and the things that they would still like to do if only they were younger. Career changes and going back to school top the list of things that seem impossible for those who face mortgages and family commitments. In reality, many of these limitations are self-imposed and this week two good friends of LifeTwo sent us announcements of significant accomplishments they have made in their lives despite not being in their twenties or thirties.

First we received a release notice of a new book from LifeTwo columnist David Houle. Houle wrote a well-received series of posts on how future macro-trends could impact the career choices that people might make. Last year Houle told us that he would be stepping back from his LifeTwo column to focus on writing this book and we are exceptionally excited about its release. Houle is a great example of the reinvention that one can go through. He was a former media executive with an interest in the future. Over the past several years he has transitioned himself into a blogger, lecturer, consultant and now author and is considered one of the leading authorities on the subject.

We then received an announcement from Jed Diamond about how just a few months before his 65th birthday he has earned his Ph--41 year after first being accepted into the Berkeley program. He noted in his own blog that "It's never too late to make it happen."

Congratulations David and Jed and we hope that others follow the examples you have set.
