That Good Looking Guy or Girl Might Be "Honey Trapping"

Wesley's picture

38-year-old former RAF officer Richard Martinez likes to go to bars and strike up conversations with women. But he's there with a mission. He's been hired by spouses concerned about the trustfulness of their wives. There is a name for this profession which also employs women checking up on their husbands, it's called "honey trapping" though Martinez prefers the term "integrity testing."

There are several such private agencies located around the world. Martinez works at the the Expedite Detective Agency of England, and charges 300 pounds ($588) for an integrity test on a potential cheat. Martinez's process was the subject of a recent Reuters article.

Sadly Martinez reports that around 80 percent of the people he approaches fail the test and turn out to be ready and willing to cheat on a partner. He takes steps to deflect the obvious criticism that he is entrapping victims who would not otherwise cheat on their spouse. Here are his rules of engagement:

    1. He records the "hit" so that his client can see exactly how the evening unfolds.

    2. The target must not be drunk.

    3. No touching.

    4. The relative attractiveness of the trapper to the target must be equal.

We will sidestep the obvious moral argument and simply note that business must be good since they are looking for new staff members noting that being an integrity tester is an "ideal second career."
