Women and Cranberries go together

Wesley's picture

The medicinal benefits of cranberries has long been assumed but the science behind many of these claims has been lacking. Not anymore. Prof. Itzhak Ofek, a researcher at Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine, studied the red berries and found that:

...cranberry juice exhibits anti-viral properties against the flu, can prevent cavities, and lessens the reoccurrence of gastric ulcers. Unhappily for half the human race, however, new research published this year in the journal Molecular Nutrition & Food Research on ulcers, suggests that, like urinary tract infections, the healing power of cranberries apply only to women.

Prof. Ofek’s recommends daily consumption (about 2 glasses) for both women and men. While research has not shown that men gain the same benefits his reasoning is that "there is still so much we don’t know about cranberries, I would suggest that men also drink two glasses a day [too]".

Wondering how to incorporate cranberries into your diet. How about Oatmeal cranberry while chocolate chunk cookies? Granted this is probably not the healthiest manner in which to consume cranberries but the idea is that by incorporating them into such a tasty dessert you'll be more likely to start adding them to other foods such as breakfast cereals, smoothies, salads, etc.
