On September 24th LifeTwo is going to help you become "Happier"

Wesley's picture

This month LifeTwo is will be dedicating a week to learning about and improving happiness. This might seem either odd or obvious but it's neither. It's not odd because happiness, not money or prestige, is the "ultimate" currency by which we measure our lives.*** (Isn't it worth a week to improve?)

It's not obvious because if it was then we would all be better at achieving happiness than we appear to be. People are good at a lot of things but when it comes to being truly happy, we've stagnated. Unlike so many other areas that have seen unprecedented growth and progress in our society (think technology and bio medicine) not to mention staggering increases in overall wealth, our ability to be happier in our lives has been rather flat. Fortunately in the past decade, academics have begun to tackle happiness and have created a new discipline on the subject, Positive Psychology.

LifeTwo is going to take the latest thinking from Positive Psychology and create a week's worth of activities to educate about happiness and to give you the tools to improve your own happiness levels. Our text book for the week will the new book "Happier" by Al Ben-Shahar. Dr. Ben-Shahar teaches Positive Psychology at Harvard, which is the most popular class at the university. (Yes, even Harvard undergraduates want to be happy.)

In "Happier", Dr. Ben-Shahar lays out a number of exercises and activities. We've selected a sampling of these and grouped them around 5 key lessons, one of which will be given each day. We encourage you to acquire this book prior to our "Happier" week since having the book will make the exercise and experience much deeper. (It is available from Amazon, linked below).

During this week we will also have insights about the concepts discussed provided to us by Dr. Ben-Shahar as well as a Podcast interview with him.

Finally, we have asked a few friends and colleagues from blogs dedicated to various aspects of happiness and positive psychology to work with us on the week including Gretchen Rubin from the Happiness Project. We will be doing these exercises along with you. After all, we'd like to be happier too.

To participate just come to LifeTwo on September 24th. Please also sign up for our newsletter (see upper right hand corner of this page) as this month's issue will contain all of the information you will need to participate.
