Advice from a Widow: "Widow Words"

Wesley's picture

What do you say to someone whose husband has just died? How do you help them? How can you understand what they are going through?

"There are no words to describe waking up in the morning after your husband has died and thinking, 'I'm a widow.'" writes Marcia Curran author of "Widow Words: 100 Simple Pieces of Advice from Another Widow."

After losing her husband, Curran kept a journal of her thoughts and then decided that her thoughts and ideas could help others experiencing similar losses cope with their new world. Even the book's layout has its intended audience in mind and she places just one entry on each page because that might be all a recently widowed woman can handle.

Examples of the advice found in the book:

Sell his truck (or car). Even the neighbors feel sad looking at it.

The first year is the hardest, so is the second, and the third.

What widow hasn't thought, Why him? Why me? Why us?

It's a very sad subject but one that many will face. "Widow Words" could be a good book for someone who needs a little something at this extremely difficult time of their life.
