Study: Women drawn to men with muscles

Wesley's picture

Men now have yet another reason to include weights in their exercise regimen. According to researchers at UCLA, muscular young men are likely to have more partners of physical intimacy than their "less-chiseled" peers.

"Women are predisposed to prefer muscularity in men," said study author David Frederick of UCLA.

The study has been published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, suggests muscles in men attract females looking for a virile mate "akin to elaborate tail feathers in male peacocks."

These results might appear to be stating the obvious however several previous studies have indicated a man's desirability was more heavily influenced by his earning potential and commitment. But the UCLA study found it is the physical characteristics that matter more.

The differences in results between the various studies might be in the differences in intent of the women--short-term fun versus long-term commitment. According to the Reuters:

Women were more physically attracted to brawny men, especially for a fling. But when it comes to finding a long-term partner, they tend to pick a regular man over a mate with huge biceps.

If you're a man and want to cover all of your bases, have a well-toned body, successful career, a movie star smile, and be good with kids. We shouldn't need a study to confirm this.

Chicks dig pecs

"Women were more physically attracted to brawny men, especially for a fling." This is good info. I've been trying to decide whether I should look for a job or join a gym. Look for me in the free-weights area.
