Carnival of Careers in Middle Age #5; Tips, Suggestions and How-to's

Wesley's picture

When reaching middle age, it's natural to question your career path. More specifically whether the career path you started on two decades ago is still the one for you today or is it time for a change? But changing careers midlife is a significant step and involves a multitude of risk factors. To help your exploration of this topic we have created the "Carnival of Careers in Middle Age".

This post is an open "carnival" whereby bloggers have been given the opportunity to submit stories that are in some way related to career issues in middle age. We'll kick it off with our own contribution Penelope Trunk's "The Brazen Careerist"; Advice you almost certainly have not heard before.

We also suggest that all midlife job seekers consult our "Midlife Career Change FAQ", a resource-intensive post on all aspects of changing careers in middle age.

The following posts were submitted by third party bloggers and we encourage you to check out their posts as well as poke around their blogs. Their appearance in this carnival means that they are out promoting their blogs and worthy of our support. (It should also be noted that many of these contributors have started their blogs as second careers so if there was ever a good group of people who understand midlife career issues it's these people).

We are starting out with a simply great post from JobMob called "40 Tips for Job Seekers over 40". A must read if you are heading back out into the job market and have a few years under your belt (like us!).

Next is the blog of Debra Moorhead with her timely post "The Value of Persistence". Having dealt with Debra over the past several weeks I can tell you she knows what she is talking about (and that she is persistent!).

We have a post from our friends at SharpBrains called "On Bill Gates Harvard commencement speech (and his Frontal Lobes)." (A side note, cognitive health is going to become one of the major issues of our lifetime, on par with physical health. Get a head start by reading SharpBrains like us.)

The Atlantic Canada's Small Business Blog (whose theme is "Share & discover what makes your small business tick") has contributed this relevant article "Business life lesson - Business is a team sport."

FitBuff.com (tagline "Total mind and body fitness") has contributed "5 Tips to Empty Your Inbox and Keep It That Way". (A lot of good stuff at this blog.)

Advice and Rants (possibly the best blog name I've ever seen) has this relevant advice "25 Ways to Make Money Quickly and Easily (and Legally)!". (Hopefully next time they submit a rant!).

And it's always important to get the lowdown from human resources and on the net there is no better place than the HR Lowdown. They have contributed "Feeling Unfulfilled? 37 Tips to Enjoy Work More". Now if you can't find at least one thing in a list of 37 that helps then you either need a new job or therapy. (Whoops: Find a new job is #37. Now you have no excuse.)

Patti Blevins asks "What’s the Plan for Your Home Based Business Opportunity?". (Fortunately for us she also answers it in 10 easy steps for you to follow.

I told you that we had a good set of articles time around.

Final plug: If you like articles like this make sure to sign up for the LifeTwo monthly newsletter. Just put you email address in the upper right hand corner. You can unsubscribe at any time.
