Midlife Health: Healthy Habits That Aren't

Wesley's picture

Supplements are believed to be good, then we read that they are not. We are told that we should drink 8 glasses of water every day, then we hear that we shouldn't. With the back and forth of studies proving one point only to be contradicted by a later study, it's easy to get frustrated and confused about how exactly one lives a healthy lifestyle.

The following MSN slideshow illustrates the latest thinking on 8 habits that were previously considered "healthy" but recent research has indicated otherwise, Healthy Habits That Aren't.

After following the above link, one might wonder what you in fact one should be doing for good health. The good news is that there are a few fundamentals that have never been upended by a medical study and are unlikely to be so in the future. These include:

    1. Eat a balanced diet, especially fruits and vegetables. Don't rely on supplements for necessary nourishment.

    2. Don't be a couch potato. Get regular "cardio" and weight-bearing exercise (you need both).

    3. Get a regular physical.
