What does the media think about aging? Look at what the Los Angeles Times is saying about 59-year old Arnold Schwarzenegger
Submitted by Wesley on February 1, 2007 - 11:10am.
What's is like to get old? Not good, at least based on descriptions of 59-year old Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Los Angeles Times. Among the quotes in a single story on the governor:
This isn't about the Times picking on Schwarzenegger as they just endorsed him for his second term. And much of the article's tone may have been driven by the fact that Schwarzenegger isn't your normal governor and has made much of his physical prowess. But the portrayal and the terminology used for describing the aging process is unmistakably negative. Is the weight of time really that "unforgiving," and if so is it at 59? Whatever happened to '60 being the new 40'? I don't remember 40 year olds of yesteryears being sagging, weary and fragile. I don't plan on being tired and weary when I'm 59, how about you?
