Book Tip: Never Eat Alone
Submitted by Wesley on January 23, 2007 - 1:29pm.
"Never Eat Alone" by Keith Ferrazzi is not a midlife book per se. But the lessons in the book will benefit anyone undertaking a career change (and who in midlife isn't at least considering ditching their current career?). The fact is that the stronger one's network of contacts are the easier it will be to transform careers as well as perform in your new field. Many people believe that networking is a born trait and you've either got it or you don't. Ferrazzi shows that this simply isn't the case. It's a discipline and it takes work. But the rewards are worth it and since humans are social animals it turns out to be a rather enjoyable discipline at that. Like many business books, much of the content will come off as obvious. But if it's so obvious why aren't you doing them? The rub is that it often helps to read what you know if nothing else but to get you to finally doing them. Before you write yourself off as a sub-par networker, look at your rolodex and the people that you've made friends with over your life. Odds are that it serves as a more than sufficient basis for you to build an incredibly valuable network. We'll even give you a head start, if there is some way that you think you can work with or help LifeTwo, please let us know via the contact us function of this website and we'll hook-up!
