A Search Engine for Job Seekers 50 and Above

Wesley's picture

Simply Hired describes itself as a "vertical search engine". To people outside of Silicon Valley, this means they are a search engine (like Google) focused on a particular market, in this case jobs. They claim to be building the largest online database of jobs on the planet and they are backed by Fox Interactive, the same Murdoch company that now owns MySpace.

What makes them relevant to LifeTwo's readers is that they have a search offering for job seekers aged 50 and above which they've created in conjunction with RetirementJobs.com.

According to their press release:

With the first of the 77 million baby boomers turning 60 this year, employers face a staffing crisis. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates 10 million jobs will go unfilled in 2010 as the first wave of boomers retires. Simply Hired’s new search offering helps to close this gap by connecting boomers in search of work with employers who value their experience and have thousands of job openings to fill.

While salary is certainly important to those seeking “encore careers,” other criteria, such as flexibility (the ability to work full or part-time, in seasonal or contract positions), benefits, training, and a company culture that is free of age bias, are valued highly by these experienced employees.

The release goes on further with the AARP data that 70% of baby boomers plan to continue working into retirement indicating that Simply Hired and RetirementJobs.com are not likely to be alone in companies servicing the mature worker market.
