"Be accountable" for work-life balance

Greg's picture

"... a lot of people are living out of balance. Working too much; (taking on) too many responsibilities.

They often need values clarification. If you say family and friends are important to you but you work 80 hours a week, you're not living or acting on values. You're kidding yourself.

If you say you value creativity but have no time to paint or cook, you're kidding yourself.

This can't be self-taught. There's something about talking to someone who knows more than me. It says getting balance is important enough to me to devote a little bit of regular attention to it, to be accountable."

- Life coach / psychotherapist Kathleen Brehony, in Jane Glenn Haas' Orange County Register column
