Grumpy Old Men and Women? It's The American Workforce.
Submitted by Greg on October 16, 2006 - 11:04pm.
Younger and older worker's job satisfaction is trending in opposite directions ... and it's the most experienced workers who think work life is worse than it used to be. A Pew Research Center survey says that while 9% more younger workers are "completely satisfied" with their job than in 1989, for workers age 50+, 13% less are as satisfied. The least satisfied group overall are those 30-49, with only 26% "completely satisfied." That's about the same as 1989's 24%. 18-29 year olds improved from 23% "completely satisfied" to 32%. 50+ workers dropped from 43% to 30%. That's a substantial drop. The data suggests that a person's satisfaction with their work life is driven by one factor: whether they think job opportunities and job security are getting better or worse. And older workers say there is less security than there was twenty or thirty years ago. --- Read Similar LifeTwo Stories:
