Help With Midlife Transition ... Back At College?

Greg's picture

The University of Virginia is offering alumni a three day "Career Transitions Workshop" which they say will "equip you with the career management skills and resources to achieve your lifetime career and life goals." It's targeted at "individuals seeking to define and find 'what's next' for them" and "individuals considering or in the midst of a job transition." Judging from the testimonials, many participants consider the experience very worthwhile.

While this specific program is open only to UVA alumni, you might want to see if your alma mater offers a similar program.

We haven't included alumni offices in our thinking about life planning resources, but this shows that was a mistake. Programs like this serve the interests of both the midlife alum (who get information and structure from instructors and peers) and the school (who get more appreciative alumni). Let's hope we see more.
