Although targeted more at folks nearing retirement, a recent "Life's Work" column in the New York Times focuses on the rejection of experienced -- but 50+ -- potential workers by employers. But, says author Lisa Belkin

... the future of work may well depend on the graying baby boomers, the first of whom turned 60 at the start of this year. There's "a new phase of life, between midlife and true old age," says Marc Freedman, a founder of Civic Ventures, a San Francisco policy research organization that works to redefine aging, and the author of "Prime Time: How Baby-Boomers Will Revolutionize Retirement and Transform America" (PublicAffairs, 2000). "The potential for the common good is staggering."
