I imagine in some cultures and places, the kids stay around. In the US parents are told to put their kids to bed in separate rooms and raise them to be as independent as possible. Why? I don't know. I guess that goes with a lot of other cultural factors. But if your kids are showing signs of having plans for themselves, making good choices, not abusing drugs, or whatever, then you're doing fine! »
