Being a Florida native, I've been through hurricanes for almost 50 years, ranging from category one storms to category fives. I can tell you from experience that the fives are storms to take very seriously, but the ones are usually nothing more than a powerful rain shower. I've been married for 4 years. I have a beautiful daughter that is 3 years old. I met my husband ona single group in the catholic church and I trully believe LOrd brought me in his life. He always had a bad temper and I was wondering many times if I should leave him. LASt year he was fired from his job on the church and he went to CAlifornia for a 3 months ocntract job. »more»

I’m amazed at the number of accomplished, assertive, confident midlife women who confide in me a problem with the their dating relationship. The common sense solution is to talk to their guy about it.
However, many of these women seem squeamish at this prospect. When I ask why, they respond, “I’m afraid of losing him.” »more»

Scientists at the University of Michigan have discovered that people who get a "buzz" the first time they smoke a cigarette have a certain gene variant that is lacking in people who cough, choke and get nauseated from that initial smoke. The people with this gene are most likely to become regular smokers, according to the journal Addiction. »more»

The conventional wisdom that the best way to cope after a traumatic or disturbing event is to talk about it may be wrong--at least for some people. Once the major tool in treating depression and other psychiatric illnesses, the use of psychotherapy fell from 44% to 29% over the 10-year period from 1996 to 2005. Meanwhile the use of antidepressants and other drugs became more widely used during the same period. »more»

One attribute of increases in human longevity is that the length of time that seniors are expected to live past retirement has been increasing. Even though people are living longer (since 1940 men are now living on average five years longer), the age of customary retirement has been relatively fixed. »more»

What the heck is the Dorothy Syndrome and what does it have to do with mid-life crisis? Well, it has everything to do with MLC! The Dorothy Syndrome is a phrase that I coined and is the premise for my upcoming book titled "The Dorothy Syndrome: Mid-life on the Yellow Brick Road". While coaching at another web site forum, I started using the metaphors used in one of my favorite stories and movies..."The Wizard of OZ". I was astonished at how easily I could use the dialog from the movie or premise of the story to describe the transitions, emotions, the typical experiences that occur during an MLC, whether it be for the woman or the man. »more»
